It's Floss's birthday when she gets the bad news. Her Mum, Step brother and step Dad have decided to move to Australia becuase her step Dad, Steve, has got a job opportunity over there. But the thing is Floss doesn't want to go. Every weekend she goes to her Dad's to stay. It's hard to tell him but it's better now than never. She convinces her Mum that she will be alright with her Dad while her family go to Australia for six months but her Mum isn't pleased. Then she makes a new friend, Susan. Sje is a bit of a wimp but she is very smart and a great friend to tell secrets to. Then her best friend Rihannon breaks friendsship withher and they hate each other now. But when her dad meets someone. Sometimes i got a bit lost on what they were talking about but otherwise it was a really great book. It took some time to finish but that is only becuase the book is quite long. You should definatly get the chance to read it. It is in the school library. | |
| Describe the main character(s): Floss (Flora) is one of the main characters in the story. It didn't say how old she was but I am thinking about 11 or 12. She has hair like candyfloss and thats why everyone calles her Floss. (In the end she dies her hair pink to look like candyfloss!) Charlie. He is Floss's dad. He and Floss's Mum got devorced so he decided to start up a caf'e, Charlie's Caf'e. But it's not going to well with the money side of things. Charlie lives in a flat upove the caf'e. Rihannon. Rihannon is Floss's best friend, or so she likes to think. She is the coolest girl in the school and not to mention drop dead gorgeuos. She had flowing, silky black hair and wears the coolest designer clothes that her rich parents insist she wear. Memorable passage in the story: | Favourite part in the story: My favourite part in the story is when Floss goes to live with the carnaval with Rose and her dad. Floss helps out Rose with the candy floss and Charlie makes his famous chip butties. Likes and dislikes about the story: I like it How the auther describes everything so vividly you can imagine it while you are reading the story. But sometimes you imagine too much that when you stop you can't nremember what the chapter is about! There arn't many things i don't like about the story but the one thing i hate is when the Author makes a mistake and it won't make sence with the other words. | |
| I hated the clothes they bought me but I said thank you a million times just to make sure they coudn't tell I hated them. |

| This book would be suited to more mature children (10-15) because some of the words were a bit big even I couldn't pronounce them! | |
