Internet ticket scam
Internet fraudsters have made more than 50 million dollars from websites selling bogus tickets to the Olympics. More than a dozen New Zealanders have been caught out in the scam. The problem has occurred because so many people have had difficulty getting tickets so have tried alternative sources. Tickets have also be sold on the black market for 3 times the normal price. 4 Aug 08 Mr. Sawyer

The highlights of the Olympic games will be daily posted on you tube. They will be available to 77 territories where digital rights have not been sold. Chinese police beat two Japanese journalists
In Beijing chinese police have beaten two japanese journalists reporting on the sites around the olympic gate and have complain that there is much racisism shown in the locals. The police that pysically abused the reporters have been forced to make an official appology. However the chinese police are trying to keep out most of the inernational reporters and journalists, this action is said not to be permanent reporters can start coming in when the olymics start. 6th Aug 08 by bellazno1/Christobel. Cyclists wear masks to Beijing Some members of the US cycling team arrived at Beijing for the Olympics wearing Respirtory masks, apparently concerned about the un-healthy levels of air polution. About half a dozen members of the team were pictured wearing close fitting repirtory masks covering their nose and mouth while in Beijing airport. The Olympic Torch

Beijing - On Monday the Olympic torch reached two of the worst hit areas in the Sichuan earthquake. In Sichuan on Sunday the torch arrived and continued onto the second leg of the Sichuan relay Monday, starting in the Buddhist resort Leshan and later making its way to the quake-devastated Mianyang and Guanghan counties.

Gold, Silver, Bronze and Jade.

Every medallist in the Beijing Games will get some - jade. For the first time in Olympic history the gold, silver and bronze medals will include material besides metal, an inlaid disc of Jade. Jade is an element that many people around the world associate with China. The medals for the champion and runner-up are made of pure silver, and the winner's medal must be plated with gold weighing not less than six grams. Bronze medals are made of copper.

Everswindell twins win rowing

The twins are back. After two years of poor form, defending Olympic champions Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell delivered a great performance on the water at Shunyi yesterday, they made a great start to the New Zealand rowing team.
The semi final will be onWednesday and hopefully a gold medal attempt on Saturday.

First Swimming Gold!!

Michael Phelps (USA) smashed the world record in the 400 metres individual medley to take his first gold on Sunday and even if the 23-year-old wins only half his eight race competitions, he will hold more Olympic gold medals than any other athlete. He won six golds at Athens 2004 and wants to better Mark Spitz's 1972 record of seven wins at one Games. Phelps won the 400 metres individual medley final in Beijing's futuristic Water Cube in a time of 4.03.84 - 1.41 seconds quicker than the previous best he set just six weeks ago!!

Tuesday ,12, August Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon of Thailand lifted the women's 53kg final of weightlifting at Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Aug. 10, 2008. Prapawadee claimed title in this event and set a new Olympic record with 126 kilos. Joshua , Shawty_12

Nail biting win!
It was less than a blink of an eye in the nail biting womens 400m freestyle final, that seperated gold from silver. Only seven hundreths of a second seperated Britains Rebecca Adlington and Americas Katie Hoff. But after a nail biting wait Rebecca Adlington won the gold with her very last stroke.

Cute "rising star" mimed it for chubby faced singer
The little girl who starred at the olympic ceremony was miming and only put on stage because the real singer was not considered cute enough, the musicaldirectorhas admitted. Lin Miaoke was chosen to appear because of her cute appearance and did not sing a note. The girl who's voice was heard by the 92,000 capacity crowd at the main olympic stadium was a seven-year old girl, Yang Peiyi, has a chubby face and uneven teeth.
"Li Miaoke is excellent in those aspects (looks).
But in terms of voice, Yang Peiye is perfect."

Chinese defend Olympic ceremony lip-synch

Chinese officials defended their decision to pass off the voice of a 7-year-old songbird as that of another girl at the Olympic opening ceremony, calling it a simple casting choice. Critics said it was a step too far in China's obsession with the perfect Olympic Games.

Beijing organizers of the games faced tough criticism Wednesday after a whistleblower revealed that the 9-year-old who performed a song during the spectacular opening ceremony was lip-synching to another girl's vocal track.

I think the girl who was really singing it should have gone up because she had earned the right to go up and sing because it didnt matter about the appearance they just needed someone to sing thats all

Kiwis Jo Kiesanowski and Catherine Cheatley have finished well off the pace in the women's road cycling race in Beijing.
Kiesanowski's finished in 28th place while Cheatley's ended back in 53rd.
With a little help from her friends it was Britain's Nicole Cooke who proved that she could deliver the big prize: an Olympic gold medal.

*Controversial Greek Sprinter Banned From Olympics*

A Greek sprinter involved in a drug-testing scandal at the 2004 Athens Olympics has been banned from the Beijing Games. The International Olympic Committee's executive board has ruled that Katarina Thanou will not be allowed to compete in Beijing, even though she was on the Greek athletics team for the 100 meters.

She and fellow-Greek sprinter Kostas Kenteris missed doping tests on the eve of the 2004 Opening Ceremonies, claiming they were injured in a motorcycle accident. Valerie Vili's Track and Field Medal
Valerie Vili, NZ's female shotput champion, won the first gold track and field medal for New Zealand in 32 years. The last athlete to get a gold in athletics was John Walker, in 1976. 23-year-old Vili won closely with a throw of 20.56 meters, and is now the worlds reigning outdoor and indoor champion. Her runner-ups were two Belorussians, named Natallia Mikhnevich (the silver meddalist) and Nadzeya Ostapchuk (the bronze meddalist).

Successful day for paddlers
It was a successful day for paddlers Ben Fouhy, Steven Ferguson and Mike Walker out on the water on Wednesday. With Fouhy racing the K1 1000 and Ferguson and Walker pairing up in the K2 1000, both crews needed to finish top three in their semi-finals to make it through. Fouhy got the action underway finishing second in his race, edged out by Ken Wallace of Australia.
